MISC: THE WIT AND WISDOM OF RECKLESS RICK: LIFE LESSONS

"If you ain't got love, you got nothing."

-Richard in a Dark City interview

"It's an uplifting and encouraging philosophy, because ideas are cheap and it's the follow-through and the commitment that counts."

-Richard, on "Don't dream it, Be it"

"Doing what a man MUST do is not always pleasant."

-The Ink Thief

"No army ever marched in anger wearing fishnet stockings and six-inch high heels"

-On the societally imposed role of the sexes

"Above all, Love is God"

-Lyric from the song that would eventually become "Running With the Noisy Boys"

"Whatever you want to do, you'll do it better if you did it as you"

-Rhythm of the Heartbeat

"This is life, it ain't MacBeth"

-The Dick of Death

"So we may as well just enjoy ourselves . . . I think . . . "

-from Richard's Teddy Lifetime Achievement acceptance speech

"I always think 'Life's too short . . . fuck em.'"

-On caring about others' opinions

"What the hell are you? Are YOU the perfect example of manhood? Are you the one man toward which all other men should aspire?"

-Over at the Frankenstein Place, by the Richard O'Brien Crusade

"If everyone spoke English in the world, it'd be like Star Trek. They like to say it's because of those badges, but that's bullshit."

-On the English language

I'm exceptionally fortunate, I think. Well, most of us are, actually. We don't count our blessings often enough, do we? We don't say how lucky we are. To have the gift of sentiency, for a start- the gift of life- to be thinking beings. To be able to have a conversation like this, to be such clever buggers. Born in the west, to live in the English speaking west. It's great. This is wonderful stuff.

-During my "interview" (term used EXTREMELY lightly)

That's the secret of life- recovering.

(In Las Vegas, after falling on his butt)
