STAGE: T.ZEE AND THE LOST RACE
PLEASE READ ME

I spent a long time looking for any details at all on this short-lived musical by Richard (music once again handled by writing partner Hartley) but have consistently come up short, and consequently gave up looking.

As usually happens in such situations, it literally fell into my lap in the form of an e-mail early one Monday morning. (and many thanks go out to the sender, I'm eternally grateful)

Q

What had been previously suspected about the piece has been proven in the reviews pro
Left to right: Belinda Sinclair as Alison Dare, Diane Langton as Princess La, and Warren Clarke as T Zee
vided (see below). T.Zee is a musical based on the Tarzan myth, in which two "normal" types, anthropologists to be exact, stumble upon an underworld in what used to be Los Angeles.

Richard played a small part, referred to as a "masochistic anthropologist" named Eugene de Lyle. It also starred Belinda Sinclair (possibly best known these days for her "disco" touch me single, reference Kev's page on it for more info) as Alison Dare. Brian Thomson (set designer of both stage and film Rocky as well as Shock Treatment) also returned for the production, and at least one of the reviews below discusses a little of Thomson's flair for a flashy set. As an example, a few of the reviews mention doors on stage set for "winners" and "losers", through which cast members were ushered throughout the show.

The play itself opened on the tenth of August of 1976, and closed on September 11th, a grand total of 38 performances.

Below are a few reviews. Peruse as you will.
