TELEVISION: THE CRYSTAL MAZE: THE ZONES
PLEASE READ ME

Each game consisted of approximately 15 minutes in a zone, and there were four zones traveled through during the course of the game. The zones were as follows:

AZTEC: The Aztec zone was a small little village of adobe made houses which held the puzzles and tasks. Some of the puzzles found in this zone were the cards, pea shooting, detaching the rings, and so forth. During this zone Richard would often comment on the heat, smack the odd mosquito and wear sunglasses.

The timers in this zone are tubes that contain liquid, much like sandglasses.

MEDIEVAL-The Medieval zone was supposedly the home of Reckless Rick, Mumsy, and Ralph (the butler). Always dusty, decrepit and dungeon-like, common puzzles here included going to see Mumsy, rolling cannonballs into racks, coordinating tubes to run a water mill, and making your way through a jail like maze.

Richard was very fond of relating all sorts of stories about his "family" while here, including his father, who apparently was at one time inside the suit of armor that stands guard over the zone.

The timers were hourglasses, and the other team members could see their mates' progress through the barred peepholes in the heavy wooden doors.

INDUSTRIAL- A very metallic looking zone. Grays and silvers are key in the decor. Many many math and logic problems were found here, including money conversions, all lights off, numerical sequences and the like.

FUTURISTIC- Run by computers, this zone is covered with technology. The rooms, compared to the dinginess of the Industrial zone, are bright white.

Common puzzles in this zone include playing with time, calculations and others. In this zone, Richard was often found to be arguing incessantly with the computer- whose voice changed over the course of the series- to keep the monitors straight, or to let the players in, etc.

OCEAN- This zone replaced Industrial in the later shows. Supposedly located beneath the Medieval zone by way of a porthole, the zone is a reconstructed ocean liner that Richard claims he is "refurbishing".

Common puzzles included climbing over rotating turbine-type things, matching games, time zones, and the pirate's cove.
